I've been meaning to write down some thoughts about my training this year, but up to this point I've only managed to do the running not the writing. I'm now into my second season of consistent running and am really excited about both of the half marathons that I already have on my schedule. Last season, I followed a training plan leading up to my first ever half marathon and I feel it went really well. I felt good about my race and enjoyed the entire process from the start of training to crossing the finish line.
This year I've decided not to follow an actual planned schedule, but have tried to put in 20 or more weekly miles. I've also tried to get back on Sunday long runs and this weekend I went on a 13.3 mile run for my first half marathon distance of the year. The run felt good, but I would be lying if I did not say that miles 10 and 11 were rather uncomfortable. I'm excited to know where I stand almost two months before my first race and hope that I can continue with my training for the next two months.
With just over 140 miles in so far during the calendar year, I feel good and injury free. The pain in my foot that I experienced during training last season has not returned and I'm excited to get an earlier start this year.
Most of all I'm excited about how much I am still enjoying running. We have had fantastic weather so far this late winter and early spring, which has enabled me to do a good bit of running outside. It is hard to explain the feeling you get in the middle of a run when the weather is perfect and the scenery around you is so nice. I still can't believe that I find a 10+ mile run both relaxing and energizing.
