The opening race for the Runners Edge Trail Series and my first trail race for the 2017 season. This is the second year of this event on newly created trails located on private land in Lolo, Montana. Just like last year, the weather was cool in the mid 40's with rain through the duration.
The course for the 10-mile race had a couple of changes this year to the course with new single track at the top of the first climb which added some distance up front so that the split from the 5-mile course was no longer necessary. On the new section of single track, a steep set of switchbacks were found at the top of the climb.
As the course was different, I can't really compare times between this year and last. I struggled at the top of the first climb, which was a bit disappointing considering I went into the race feeling adequately prepared. If anything, it provides motivation to keep working for the rest of the year.
